Imbumba Foundation distribute a years’ supply of sanitary pads to learners

Founder of the Imbumba Foundation Richard Mabaso states that he is excited about the target that the climbers of the Trek4Mandela achieved during their expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro and fundraising campaign back in 2022.

In their latest quest of eradicating period poverty in South Africa, the two groups that took on the Trek4Mandela challenge last year orchestrated by the Imbumba Foundation, managed to raise enough funds to support over 5 000 young girls in need of resources for their menstrual cycle.

As stated by the communication manager of the Sandton-based foundation, Sina Moyane, the collaboration of the groups successfully led to thousands of girls from six provinces receiving a full years’ supply of sanitary protection.

The Caring4Girls programme, which also falls under the Imbumba Foundation, reached its 10-year anniversary and has been tackling the social issue by providing sanitary towels, puberty education and menstrual hygiene support.

“It is always humbling to have people who join the Trek4Mandela programme to support this notable cause. I am very proud of the 2022 climbers who have raised enough funds to support thousands of indigent girls across six provinces from which they are from. May we continue to all do our part to uplift communities,” said the founder of Imbumba Foundation, Richard Mabaso.

The Trek4Mandela programme is an annual expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro. Participants honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela, while raising funds for period poverty in numerous disadvantaged communities.

Climbers of the 2022 edition of the expedition are set to visit various schools across their respective provinces to distribute sanitary pads to the learners and share their reasons as to why they decided to climb the highest peak in Africa.
