Threat of unest to be taken seriously – Station Commander, Norwood Police

SAPS and SA Defense Force had deployed additional manpower around Gauteng to minimise the risk of attacks.

The Station Commander of the Norwood Police, Colonel Phethole Mahasha, has confirmed that a current threat doing its rounds with regards to possible attacks on the country’s infrastructure on August 23 (Monday) is being taken seriously by authorities.

This, according to a statement issued to the Gazette by Wayne Preston, chairperson of the Norwood Community Policing Forum (CPF).

He said the SAPS and SA Defense Force had deployed additional manpower around Gauteng to minimise the risk of attacks. These measures will remain in place until further notice. Mahasha has also requested the CPF’s Community in Blue patrollers to assist with proactive patrols and has requested extra vigilance from all security companies in the Norwood policing precinct on August 23. Preston explained the CPF was part of a Joint Operations Group in the Norwood precinct. Information with regards to the threat will be verified and shared with the community.

Residents are asked to minimise their movements on Monday. When out and about please be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour immediately.
