Cross-border music ties

SANDTON– The new annual cross-border music event, South African Music Week will take place from 26 to 28 January virtually.

The annual cross border music event, South African Music Week, will be partnering with Canada this year.

With the entertainment industry being one of the hardest hit because of the Covid-19 lockdown, it is important more now than ever to support the arts.

Taking place from place 26 to 28 January, the event will see South Africa and Canada come together to explore ways in which to maximise how music, technology and business were converging and to forge a new path for success for all musicians.

A first for the country, founder and CEO of South African Music Week, Michael Moeti is excited about this venture.

“We want to write a new chapter for the South African music industry by bringing the world to our doorstep, using the digital age to unearth emerging talent and plugging it into a global audience.”

Themed Music in the 4IR, the event will be three days of online panel discussions, a virtual expo, music performances, B2B networking and an industry Hall of Honour’s event.

Local and international performers will grace the virtual stage. Sandton resident and world renowned DJ, Black Coffee will also be in digital attendance.

Moeti added that the inspiring success of Master KG’s Jerusalema has South African talent being recognised globally.

“South African Music Week is, therefore, the ideal platform from which to entrench this interest and build a robust cross-border music industry based on collaboration and making the most of music in the 4IR [Fourth Industrial Revolution],” said Moeti.
A special Covid-19 song, Corona will also be released by South African Music Week.

“This multinational collaboration is in acknowledgement of the pandemic, and the extra vigilance required by citizens of the world to do their bit to combat the spread of Covid-19.”
The event is free to attend.
