A groovy love song for summer

Frew mentioned that her style at the time was quite electronic but with a love for performing acoustic, she wanted to find a connection between the two styles.

Singer and songwriter Cara Frew is flying the South African flag high with her latest single Waiting for Love.

Remixed by Sony Music artist BeatsByHand, it’s the perfect song to usher in the hot summer.

A Sandhurst resident when on home soil, Frew is currently in Berlin working on some new music.

The inspiration for the song came from a handsome stranger she met while out and about one night in Johannesburg. “The original song was written five years ago with a friend of mine in South Africa – Andre Scheepers. I went out one night and it was meant to be just an average night and I noticed a guy who was really interesting. For the first time I felt a little bit lost and nervous, I was trying to act really cool and composed but really, I was mixed up in a lot of emotion,” she said.

A couple of days later, Frew got into the studio with Scheepers and their creative juices started flowing. “We wrote a little song based on that premise and it was the song called Waiting For Love. It sort of just blossomed. It was definitely a real story for me and I actually never saw that guy again and I’m still waiting for love,” she teased.

Frew mentioned that her style at the time was quite electronic but with a love for performing acoustic, she wanted to find a connection between the two styles. “I felt like this song didn’t fit into what I was releasing at the time and I was already working on an album, so I put it on the backburner for a while. Every time I listened to some of my demos, this song kept coming up it was really special for me so I wanted to get it produced.”

She said that BeatsByHand materialised her vision for the song. “It’s the perfect infusion of a down-tempo melody and hard-hitting, groovy bass-line beats, this is something BeatsByHand has become infamous for.”

Frew said this remix is a stepping stone and a taste of what is to come in her new body of work. We can also look forward to her new EP and launch party early next year.
