Buy the Grumpy Crestie book for Christmas
She was the one who actually prompted me to get things going. Apart from writing the book and taking the photos, she just did everything else and it has been amazing.
Our local bird celebrity, Grumpy Crestie from Lynne Wilde’s backyard in Bryanston has just debuted in his own book.
Wilde photographed this majestic bird for about 120 days and now wants to share his story.
“I was taking photographs of him one day and I had a look at the photo and I thought to myself, ‘This little oke has got so much character’. “The first post was on the I love Bryanston page on Facebook,” she said.
From that post, Grumpy Crestie garnered fans from all over Bryanston so much so that Wilde was approached by one fan in particular. Making a friend in the process, Marisia Robus who is also a Bryanston resident, took up the task to get this book published just in time for Christmas.
“She [Robus] was always Grumpy Crestie’s most loyal and biggest fan, it was really nice when she came on board. She was the one who actually prompted me to get things going. Apart from writing the book and taking the photos, she just did everything else and it has been amazing.”
Robus said she had always loved birds, so when she first saw Wilde’s post on the group she just fell in love with Grumpy Crestie.
“With Lynne’s stories and photographs, he just came to life even more and I just started becoming a huge fan. Towards the end just before Level 1 lockdown, I thought that this is a really great opportunity and I contacted her. I thought that this would be a great stocking filler for Christmas,” added Robus.
Titled, Grumpy Crestie: The life and times of a suburban Crested Barbet during the 2020 lockdown, it will be on sale online until 22 November.
“We have created a landing page for Grumpy Crestie where people can have a sneak peek of the book and place their order.”
The book is on sale online for R299. There is also a special Christmas edition for R500 which will be signed by Grumpy Crestie himself and of course the author.
A special gift for any nature lover, only 50 special ones will be made all wrapped up in a beautiful box.
“I’m excited, I think it’s absolutely wonderful and I actually cannot believe how it all came together. I just love to make people smile and this will definitely put a smile on anyone’s dial,” said Wilde.
