Tony X marks the spot

Inspired by South African RnB, Tony X said he went back in time and wanted this genre to be celebrated again.

Sandton resident and upcoming RnB musician Tony X just dropped his new single Duze which means ‘close’ in isiZulu.

He said the song told the story of a love letter from someone who was longing to be with the love of his life. Describing life as an ongoing journey, he added that with this song he was trying to tell his story.

“Basically what I am trying to say is that no matter where you come from, if you just keep at it, believe in yourself and push on you can get through anything, especially with the right support structure.”  He added that it was a love song about the distance between two partners who were longing for each other. “Saying that they want be together but they need to do something for themselves and their future first. That’s the narrative.”

Inspired by South African RnB, Tony X said he went back in time and wanted this genre to be celebrated again.  “With my music, I wanted to bring it back home and think about what our people were listening to.”Malika and Mafikizolo are some of the legendary acts who inspire him.”They inspired me with my sound but I do have a lot of hip influences too, you can call my music a blend of RnB and hip-hop.”

Available on all digital platforms, Duze may just get you missing your own loved one. He said fans could expect more RnB hits and some DJ collaborations too from him.

With the pandemic in mind, Tony X gave his fans a message to stay motivated and excited for the future.  “Just be as productive as possible, use your time to get in touch with things you couldn’t do before, work on your craft, your mindset and spend time with your loved ones and most of all stay safe.”
