The Sandton CPF is hosting its annual Community Golf Day at the Bryanston Country Club. A four-ball entry is R3 300 and there are many great prizes to be won. There are also some fantastic sponsorship opportunities available. Funds raised will go towards setting up a joint command centre in Sandton, as well as various other community security initiatives. 27 July: Siko Republik Wellness Tour

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life as well as a dynamic process of change. There are different dimensions of wellness. Physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual will be the key focus. The tour will bring to life talks, panel discussions, fashion and beauty as well as healthy, tasty food and, most importantly, express classes from Takkies and friends. Takkies will have discussions with different wellness experts from plant-based eating to how to choose a fitness routine designed for your body. There will also be a Wellness Market to shop for different proudly South African wellness brands plus your favourite SikoRepublik Athleisure wear.

27 July: Young Engineers Free Trial Lesson

Young Engineers is offering children from four years old a free lesson to experience the Young Engineers Stem programme. Using practical building using motorised Lego or K’Nex, children learn complex engineering and science concepts, such as belt transmission, gear transmission systems and speed increasing transmissions and build complex models such as conveyor belts and wind turbines. Space is limited so bookings are essential.

10 August: Dip your toes in – Some insight into beekeeping and what is involved

Thinking about beekeeping as a hobby, but need to understand what is involved, what it could cost you, how much time you need to invest etc.?

Registered beekeeper Sharon will share her experience through an informal discussion: What you need to know if you are wanting to take up beekeeping, training courses available, legalities, where to buy equipment, what you will need and average cost thereof.

10–11 August: Basics of Beekeeping – Beekeeping Introductory Training Course

Join an inspiring and highly informative training course designed for beginners with no beekeeping experience and new hobbyist beekeepers with one or two hives, who need to know more and are looking for some exposure to working with bees. Modules include: Getting started, know your bees; inside the hive, beehive components and accessories; how and when to harvest honey; acquiring bees – buying versus catching and installing a swarm, what can go wrong? Includes practical sessions in the apiary and the honey room.

Bookings are essential and close five days before the start of the course. If you are interested in the furry and fuzzy buzzing creatures, don’t miss out on this informative course.
