Shopping around Jhb like a pro…

Joburg’s top spots for flowers, fresh produce and everything in between, according to our cover girl.

We spoke to Christy Strever, our February cover girl, about her fave spots in and around Jozi to buy fresh produce, flowers and treats as well as any sneaky make-up tips she can share with us.

Impala Flowers in Randburg is my go-to – it has really great specials on Wednesdays so I try to work around that.

I find Pick n Pay has the best deals and the widest variety when it comes to really great veggies.

Woolworths is my go-to for gorgeous, fresh berries and anything that’s slightly more exotic.

The Impala stores on Beyers Naude are also fabulous as they offer a wide variety at very competitive prices.

I used to get my baked goodies at Fournos but I plan on baking my own items from now on, as soon as my oven is installed. I’ll be making tarts and cakes as well as biscuits. Yummy!

Make-up tricks:

I can’t stress enough how important great quality make-up is. It requires less painting and editing time if it’s the good stuff.

I only use Kryolan face paints. They’re amazing and last forever! And you need to invest in good quality, softer, finer brushes and sponges.

If you’re finding it difficult to remove your make-up or face paint, coconut oil is the best thing since sliced bread. It wipes off waterproof mascara and black paint in one go.

Occasionally I have issues with lash glue that won’t budge so all I do is steam my face or wash it with warm water to gently peel off the glue. Hint: Don’t use coconut oil for this. It just dissolves it into a finer glue that’s more difficult to remove.
