Local actor dreams big

BRYANSTON – Resident of Bryanston takes to the stage.

A young Bryanston resident who was cast in one of the lead roles in the stage production Beauty and the Beast always wanted to be an actor.

Jonothan Blaine Shore is 24 years old and has several years experience in the entertainment industry as an actor.

Ever since he can remember, Shore wanted to be an actor and said the industry was extremely fast-paced and it could be challenging to juggle everything.

“There are other things I have a passion for but I chose to make my main passion as my career,” he said.

“I believe it is important to make the choice of making it a career. As much as it is a dream and a passion, you need to see it as a career.”

He started his career at the Peoples Theatre 10 years ago when he was cast as Mowgli in The Jungle Book and it was a whole new world for him.

“It was my first real experience in acting and it taught me so much during that time. Now, these days it is more important for me to play the role properly and tell the story.”

Shore added that as a child, he was always busy creating a different world in his mind and pretending he was someone else.

“During school, I set myself a goal of being the best drama student I could be and in school, I managed that.”

He said he took a gap year after he finished school and he had a small role in a film, Kite starring Samuel L. Jackson. After that, he studied a performance course at Afda, The School for the Creative Economy, in Johannesburg.

Shore has no preference between film and theatre and said they both have their own challenges. Although he is drawn to theatre, he never wants to stop learning and is always looking for new opportunities.

“My dream is to just be a working actor and go on the journey to get there.”

The stage production is at the Peoples Theatre in Braamfontein until 23 December.
