Hilton Food and Beverage Masters gets taste buds watering

JOBURG – Constestants from various Hilton Hotel's had the opportunity to show off their skills.

The Hilton Hotel hosted the Food and Beverage Masters competition to celebrate up-and-coming talent within the hotel group.

The competition sees contestants from all over Africa and the Middle East travelling to Johannesburg to compete in four different categories. The four categories include bar, barista, sommelier and dessert, which require the contestants to come up with unique and exciting ideas. The culinary section will be hosted in Durban.

Finalists will prepare and serve their signature Food and Beverage creations to the judges, who will assess the taste, innovation, originality, and presentation of these creations, among other criteria. One winner will be selected across each discipline, and they will receive an exclusive training experience in a city and venue renowned for quality and innovation related to their craft.

Zeeane-Mari Benedek, the cluster marketing assistant for the Southern Africa Cluster said, “It’s not senior or expert or professionals who take part in these competitions, these are our up and coming talents, so it is a talent development opportunity within Hilton.”

Benedek highlighted that many of the contestants don’t necessarily work in the field which they are representing in the competition. Some of the contests might work within housekeeping or as a lounge host but they have an interest in a category and decided to compete.
