New play at the Square

SANDTON – The Auto and General Theatre on the Square's latest production promises to be funny and heart-warming.

The Auto and General Theatre on the Square in Sandton hosted the opening night production of its hilarious new musical, Couch and a Piano.

The musical features with popular, well-known musical talents, Cat Simoni, who has previously appeared in Christmas and all that Jazz and Alan Glass from Beautiful Creatures.

The show, directed by Paul Spence, promises to be a gloriously funny session of musical therapy with an edgy opening. The musical follows Jo, a recent divorcée, who arrives for her first session with Cape Town’s top psychologist, Carl Zimmerman. Apart from the expected couch in the consulting room, there is a Steinway baby-grand piano and a couple of guitars. Here Zimmerman uses music therapy to work through divorce issues. In this 60-minute musical rollercoaster-ride, they lay bare their broken hearts through song and chat. By the end of the session, these two total strangers are ready to fall in love again.

The show, Couch and a Piano, will run until 25 August and bookings can be made through Computicket or by calling the theatre’s box office on 011 883 8606.
