Newly opened The Capital on Park is a welcome addition to Katherine Street and only opened it doors about 2 months ago.
Although the hotel is predominantly a business hotel, the cosmopolitan feel of the city is hard to miss, and literally a 10 minute walk to Sandton CBD, this would make a great city holiday base.
We loved the apartment vibe – making your own dinner and eating breakfast downstairs in the restaurant is a great idea – it kind of gives you the feeling of being at home, although you are in a hotel, and the apartments are the perfect place for long term stays in Sandton too.
Beautifully decorated from reception through to the rooms, the hotel is beautifully appointed in shades of grey and darker blues, with a chic high ceiling and large pillars through the reception and restaurant on the ground floor – almost industrial chic if you will.
Our apartment was comfortably spacious enough for 2 people, and offered a good amount of cupboard space – a good combo of hanging and shelves, as well as an in room safe. The bathroom although compact had enough space for a good sized shower and a bath.
Views are the order of the day here – the 4th floor views out of Sandton towards Woodmead are nothing short of spectacular and our little balcony also looked out over the pool, perfect for sipping a glass of wine and unwinding after a busy day.
The kitchen was well stocked with all the basics – knives, chopping boards and the like, and we loved the fact that there was also a proper sit down dining room table (nothing worse than hunching over a counter on a bar stool to try and eat your dinner.)
The lounge offered a large L-shaped couch where we sprawled to watch TV and the entire apartment really did start to feel like home, by the time our stay came to an end we didn’t want to leave.
Poolside also boasts amazing views, and the quaintest little day beds, complete with curtains and rather cute little wicker relaxing beds, with elegant covers that pull over to shade you from the sun. Drink by the pool anyone?
Between the hospitality and full-service experience at The Capital on Park you probably won’t want to leave the hotel but, in a city filled with so many attractions, you also have reason to explore…
