Check out the Gary Player newspaper

SUN CITY – Legendary golfer gets his own Caxton newspaper.

Legendary golfer and philanthropist, Gary Player was inducted into Sun International’s South African Hall of Fame on 6 November.

In honour of his achievements and how much he has given back, Caxton Local Media will publish a 16-page once-off newspaper about the icon.

Gary Player Times will include everything a fan would like to know about the legend.

Gary Player of South Africa kneels down as he walks up to the 18th hole for his last time at the Masters during the second round of the 2009 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club in 2009.

Player’s training regime, opinions and beliefs, facts and statistics, awards and achievements, charity work and much more will be in the free newspaper to be launched at the Knight of Hope at Sun City’s iconic superbowl venue.

“We have raised R30 000 from the advertising, which will be donated to the Hall of Fame Sports Development, a charity that uplifts young sportspeople across South Africa from disadvantaged backgrounds,” said Caxton CTP head of retail marketing and innovation, Dejané Poil.

She explained that the newspaper was a tribute to a legend, and as such it was obvious that profits would have to be given away to a charity.

Gary Player Times will be available at Sun City for a week after the induction.

A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Player won nine major championships on the PGA Tour and nine majors on the senior tour. He is the only modern golfer to win the US Open in three different decades.

Gary Player’s history is discussed in the Gary Player Times newspaper. Here he is with Arnold Palmer.

Through The Player Foundation and Gary Player Invitational golf series, Player has raised more than $62 million (about R877 million) for underprivileged children’s education and hopes to raise $100 million (about R1,4 billion) by 2025.
