Getting to know local band 4am

JOHANNESBURG – 4am is a lively rock and blues band that gets any party started.

Sandton Chronicle recently met up with lead vocalist and guitarist Marc Wainstein of local band 4am to chat about their unique sound and some of their most memorable shows.

When asked about the formation of the band, Wainstein said, “The band was formed at the end of 2010. We were a four-piece full rock band that played many festivals across the country like Oppikoppi and Ramfest. We released six music videos and we had singles charting on radio stations across the country.

“Last year, the band transformed into a three-piece acoustic band with a Mumford and Sons meets Violent Femmes type feel and we haven’t looked back, we are getting such fantastic support from fans and radio stations since then.”

When asked about their name, Wainstein enthusiastically replied, “Who doesn’t like to party until 4am. We want people to do with us!”

4am has managed to combine acoustic folk with a dash of blues and a good sprinkling of party music that sets them apart. It is the catchiness of the songs and the energy level they have which creates a fantastic live atmosphere.

The members of 4am concur that their favourite performance to date has to be the Splashy Fen Music Festival. “Our performances actually made the SABC news. It was incredible!”

4am have recently released their new album, Dust n Dimes which can be purchased from all major online stores.
