Parkmore community unites for annual Halloween Parade

PARKMORE – Kids and parents have a spooky spectacular Halloween Parade to look forward to on 28 October starting at the Sandton Sports Club in Parkmore.

Children in the Parkmore neighbourhood have a spooky event to look forward to on 28 October as they participate in the annual Halloween Parade through Parkmore.

The free event, which is organised by the Parkmore Community Association (PCA), brings together parents and children of the community to have fun, dress up and trick or treat from house to house.

Children and their parents will meet at the Sandton Sports Club at 4.30pm on 28 October and walk up Virginia Avenue, left into 8th Street all the way to Hilda Road, and back along 7th Street to the Sandton Sports Club.

Parkmore community members go all out to dress up to the Halloween theme for the annual Halloween Parade.

Households along the route have volunteered to decorate their properties and donate sweets to children on the day. There will be 10 designated ‘sweetie houses’ along the route, which people can stop at and enjoy some Halloween fun.

Chairperson of the PCA, Kate Wardle said, “The Halloween Parade has become a favourite in our community calendar. Everyone enjoys dressing up and walking in the streets – kids and adults alike! People go to great lengths to ensure their houses and their outfits are suitably spooky.”

Last year, 300 children attended the event. The route has changed course this year to start and end at the Sandton Sports Club and allow new households to get involved.

Wardle requests that community members walk to the start instead of drive as parking is limited, however, there is some parking available at the club. There will also be a Halloween menu available at the Milk Bar following the event.

Young and old enjoy snacks at the end of the annual Halloween Parade in Parkmore.

While the event is free and open to the public, participants are invited to give a donation, which will be put towards giving the 40 security guards, who work in the suburb, a Christmas bonus.
