Cara Frew seeks funding for new album

JOBURG – Local singer and songwriter Cara Frew calls on fans and supporters to crowd-fund her new album.

South African singer and songwriter Cara Frew is working on her debut 10-track album and calls on her fans and supporters in the industry to contribute towards the costs of putting together the album.

Over the past year, Frew has cemented herself in the South African music industry, releasing four hit singles including Falling, Invisible, Only High With You and Dance, three of which reached number one on local radio stations across the country.

She moved to Los Angeles at age 18 to pursue a music career and received her big break in 2015 when Black Coffee featured her as the singer/songwriter of I’ll Find You, the first single off his Pieces of Me album. She has since collaborated with a number of US artists and risen significantly in the music industry. She also released a successful four-track EP in July this year.

Local musician offers fans the chance to star in her music video before heading back to LA

To achieve the goal of releasing an album, Frew needs to raise $30 000 (about R389 754) in two months. She has created a crowd-funding project with American public-benefit corporation Kickstarter. She has given the donors the bonus of receiving tangible rewards – from free music to merchandise, meet and greets and even personal appearances and performances.

Frew will also donate proceeds from one of her tracks to Lapeng Pre-school in the Johannesburg CBD.

The artist grew up in Johannesburg and attended Kingsmead College in Rosebank throughout her schooling career. Though she lives in LA, she often returns to South Africa and her music is inspired by the country she calls home.
