Calling all meat lovers to the Fire and Feast Butchers’ Festival

JOBURG – The Fire and Feast Butchers' Festival presented by Crown National is set to delight all carnivores and kitchen lovers.

The Fire and Feast Butchers’ Festival is a chance for South Africa’s best butchers to be given a well-deserved platform to showcase their skills. The international-level chefs will demonstrate their creative preparation on beef, lamb and pork, which will be presented by Crown National, taking place from 26 to 28 May.

Sponsorship and content manager at Reed Exhibitions, Paul Edmunds said of the event, “This is the first event of its kind in South Africa. Visitors can expect to learn interesting new ways to prepare meat from leading butchers with some of the country’s best chefs on hand to demonstrate cooking techniques using a variety of modern utensils.”

The national butchers challenge will see 10 teams consisting of six members each, competing in a three-hour time slot where they will be required to prepare and present cuts of beef, lamb and pork. Their overall performance will be assessed by a panel of judges. The best butchers of this challenge will go on to represent South Africa at the world butchers challenge taking place in Belfast, Ireland in 2018.

The SA Free Flame championships will be made up of the four cornerstone disciplines including potjie, braai, American-style barbecue and shisa nyama. The winner will also compete in Ireland later in the year.

Kitchen inspiration from the experts will be found at the four kitchen zones set to feature at the festival and a pork 360 kitchen, beef zone, breakfast zone and the Blue Ribbon sandwich square theatre will also feature.
