The Jozi Land Art Festival hosts its fifth event at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens

EMMARENTIA – The Jozi Land Art Festival aimed to create awareness of environmental and social problems.

The Jozi Land Art Festival took place at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens on 14 May.

The event was created by Site Specific, which aims to create awareness of environmental and social issues, and saw more than land artists participating the event.

Each artist submitted a proposal for what they hoped to create and each piece was created using only natural objects.

Some of the objects used to create the land art included rocks, leaves and sticks in formations or groupings.

Chris Reinders, who co-ordinated the event, said that the artists worked on both banks of the Braamfontein Spruit for about 500 metres before Emmarentia Dam.

The event, which was open to the public for free, featured temporary artworks which were not invasive or destructive to the environment around them.
