Sit down with host of the new show, Comedy Central News

JOHANNESBURG – Read to find out what prominent comedian and anchor of the new show, Comedy Central News (CCN), Sne Dladla has to say about it.

Renowned comedian and anchor of the new show, Comedy Central News (CCN), Sne Dladla, had a sit-down with Fourways Review, as he spoke more about the hilarious new show.

“It is an honour and a pleasure to be joining the Comedy Central family as the host for CCN. This is a fresh show – although it is similar to other shows, ours has a different concept – we go for news that was supposed to be news, but wasn’t. So yeah, I’m very excited for the audience to see what the show is all about as I can guarantee it will leave them tickled and wanting more,” he said.

Dladla is recognised as one of the country’s top stand-up comics and performers. Hailing from KwaZulu-Natal, his career as a performer first began during his days at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. “My first comedy appearance was on stage with a comedy troupe called, NatCaf. Being part of an improv comedy troupe allowed me to hone my type of comedy,” Dladla said.

As the newscaster of CCN, he brings his unique brand of humour and irreverence to viewers across Africa. “This weekly 30-minute news round-up, CCN, takes over the soundtrack of video, giving viewers all that went down, or should have gone down, in local and international sports, entertainment and political news,” Dladla quipped.

“My aim is to keep an enjoyable and energetic feel to the show, as we are allowed to let our imagination run wild.”

When asked if he felt any pressure as the host of the show, he explained that, to him, it was all about pure fun. “The show has given me a platform to do Sne, as it is a wonderful way to showcase my work and one should not feel pressure when given such an opportunity. The only pressure I think I would have is keeping the show fresh and entertaining.”

CCN uses real-life footage and a range of talented local voice-over artists to subvert the ‘real’ news, unhindered by facts or political correctness. As an alternative, CCN takes over the latest sports, entertainment and political stories making them funnier and more satisfying through a mix of sharp observation, clever writing, fake punditry and silly voices. Dladla’s comedy offers not only laughs but an entertaining mixture of talent. Proving the depth of his talent, his very first comedy show, The Joke’s On You, won a 2014 Silver Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival.

Dladla has also performed in various theatre productions, including David Kramer’s award-winning, Orpheus in Africa. For that role, Sne was named 2015’s best supporting actor by the Fleur Du Cap Awards. More recently Sne has appeared in Athol Fugard’s, The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek, which was also directed by the theatre legend and his wife, Paula Fourie.

CCN is produced for Comedy Central by Both Worlds, the award-winning, Emmy-nominated team behind ZANews’ Puppet Nation.

You can catch this satirical show, which will air on Monday nights at 9pm on Comedy Central (Channel 122).
