Business robbers’ case postponed to next month

WYNBERG – Bramley police nab two suspects and continue their search for two others who were involved in a recent business robbery in Wynberg.

Two men accused of an armed robbery at business premises in Wynberg are set to make another appearance in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 4 October.

This follows an incident on 12 August where four men robbed a business of thousands of rands worth of valuables and money.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, the four approached the business, pretending to be photocopying machine repairmen. “Once they gained entry, one of the accused [allegedly] pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the victim and another employee, demanding money from them.

“The men then proceeded to search the office and [stole] thousands of rands worth of valuables, including cellphones and money, as well as jewellery.”

While the men were looting the business, Security Reaction officers arrived on the scene. Upon seeing the security officers, the men fled.

During the ensuing chaos, one of the security officers allegedly shot one of the accused while another officer managed to apprehend the second robber. “The injured suspect was taken to hospital to have his injuries treated, but has since been [discharged]; while another suspect was arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station, where he was formally charged.”

He confirmed that both accused face charges of business robbery as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The police are still looking for the other two suspects.

The accused have since made an appearance in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court where their case was remanded and their bail application was postponed to next month.

The case continues.
