There’s a new pop princess on the scene

There’s a new musician forging her way through the music industry and with support and drive, we’re sure to hear more of her in the near future.

Alexandra May is the musically inclined star on the rise who found her passion for music through her equally talented musical family. Having started singing at age seven after convincing her piano teacher to let her ‘try it out’, May was hooked and later began taking part in competitions which saw her winning many of them and determined to take her career further.

It was when May was 14 years old that she was introduced to the people who would propel her career to the next level by prompting her to write music, hone in on her skills and finally decide on a genre she would like to perform.

After creating and distributing her demos, May was signed to David Gresham Records and now she’s a pop musician with her very first EP (short album) currently on high rotation. “It’s called One, and that’s because it’s my very first album,” she explained.

“It’s got five tracks on it. Two of my singles called Amazing and Highlight, a song that I co-wrote called Breathe, and two covers which I did to challenge myself to make my own.”

So what are the highlights of her career so far?

May takes nothing for granted and considers her entire journey the highlight of her career. She, like most local musicians, would like to take her music to international heights, but is focused on bringing the attention of the world back home.

“I want to go overseas and make it internationally, of course, that’s my dream, but I want to bring the attention back to South Africa because we have so much talent that nobody knows about.”

St Lucia is one such band from South Africa that is lesser known that produces the music May loves and she would definitely like to work with them in the near future.

Having already toured with singer Connell Cruise, May is well on her way to dominating music in the country and taking her talent abroad.
