ANC congratulates Gauteng government on clean audits

JOBURG – Makhura and his leadership team applauded for good governance.

The ANC in Gauteng has congratulated the province’s premier, David Makhura and all the MECs who work with him in achieving the audit outcomes that have been released by the office of the Auditor General. “This is yet another example of our commitment to good governance and the eradication of corruption,” read a statement by the party.

Spokesperson for the ANC in Gauteng, Nkenke Kekana said the unqualified audits were an indication of their mandate to continue to hold the purse strings of the electorate in the province with care and due diligence. “We will not renege on our social contact with our people and in holding our officials to account for the way they use public monies,” Kekana added.

“We also take this opportunity to highlight that the trend of unqualified opinions [audits] in the province is ongoing. What is particularly noteworthy is the fact that for the first time in 13 years, all of our provincial departments received unqualified opinions. As the ANC in Gauteng, we are particularly proud that all of the entities within the province also performed very well and received unqualified reports.”

He pointed out that while they congratulated the ANC-led government of Gauteng province, they called on all MECs and financial officers in the various departments to eradicate fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure. “We applaud efforts already taken which are yielding fruit as this kind of expenditure has gone down significantly from last year. This is another example of our holding public office bearers to account.”

Kekana highlighted that his party was committed to prioritising clean governance in the province and the audit reports were evidence that it was now a reality. “We take our people’s needs seriously and will not hesitate to act in their best interest in all areas,” he concluded.
