Blessers are a curse in society

ALEXANDRA – Blessers have come under fire for sleeping around with vulnerable girls in exchange for material things.

Ratang Bana founder, Ingrid Maredi has warned women to look after and watch their girl children closely in order to avoid them falling prey to notorious blessers.

She was addressing women who had come to witness the donations made by women of the UBS Investment Bank of Sandton.

In the spirit of Women’s Month, Maredi said there was a new and notorious phenomenon in the country known as blessers. “These blessers sleep around with our children under the pretext that they will thereafter shower them with gifts as blessings in exchange for sexual favours.

“In the process, these notorious blessers infect our young girls with all sorts of diseases and when they come home on their death beds, it’s us as mothers who have to look after them. As women, we need to stand up and defend the girl children against this abuse in the disguise of blessing them.

“If they are truly blessing them as a form of empowerment, why do they then demand sexual favours in exchange for the so-called blessings?

“Why don’t they make their sponsorship activities public and transparent for everyone to see and veto if necessary.

“In the spirit of Women’s Month, we need to address the social ills that are a curse to us as women and girl children.”
