19th annual Basa award finalists announced

JOBURG – The 19th Annual Basa Awards finalists were announced.

The 19th Annual Business and Arts South Africa (Basa) Awards, hosted by Hollard and Business Day, currently has 44 finalists in the running for awards celebrating business and art partnerships in South Africa.

“The diversity and range of the finalists prove that the shared value of arts-business partnerships play a significant role in bringing arts to many different communities around the country,” said Michelle Constant, CEO of Basa. Basa is a development agency with a suite of integrated programmes implemented nationally and internationally which encourage mutually beneficial partnerships between business and art.

Heidi Brauer, chief marketing officer at Hollard, said, “It’s wonderful to see that all facets of the arts have been recognised in this year’s finalists. We love being a part of something that contributes so much towards making all of South Africa’s creative industries sustainable, and that demonstrates the immense power of partnership.”

There are 11 award categories which include the Innovation Award, the First Time Sponsor Award, the Increasing Access to the Arts Award, the Beyond Borders Partnership Award, the Long Term Partnership Award, the Media Sponsorship Award, the Strategic Project Award, the Small Business Award, the Sponsorship in Kind Award, the Development Award and the Cultural Tourism Award.

Lakin Morgan-Baatjies, Basa’s marketing manager said, “Creative energy, manifesting through the arts, is empowering and provides expression where other channels may not be accessible or exist. This is especially important at a time of volatility but also heightened awareness such as we’re experiencing in this beautiful country of ours at the moment.”

Winners of the 19th Annual Basa Awards will be announced in September.
