Marlboro residents point out man accused of raping young girl

MARLBORO – Police nab rape suspect with community's help.

Community members have assisted Bramley police officers in nabbing a man accused of raping a young girl a few weeks ago.

The accused was arrested in Marlboro after the girl allegedly went missing while playing with friends near her home.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, explained that the mother had left her children at home to go to work and upon returning, discovered that the young girl was not at home along with her siblings.

“The worried mother then began a frantic search for her daughter, but after a fruitless search for hours, was not able to find her,” Maphakela said.

The following morning, the woman decided to open a missing persons case at Bramley Police Station, but while she was at the station, she received a call from a neighbour informing her that her daughter had returned home.

Maphakela explained that upon arriving back home, she found community members at her house who told her that her child had been raped by an unknown man.

“Neighbours explained that the accused had allegedly grabbed the girl, taken her to his home and raped her before letting her return home the following morning,” he explained.

Neighbours were able to identify the accused and upon reporting the matter to the police, he was arrested and detained at Bramley Police Station.

Maphakela confirmed that the man was charged with rape and has since appeared at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court where the case was postponed. The case continues.
