Man recalled to court for murder case

ALEXANDRA - Court reopens 2002 Innes Free Park murder case

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court reopened a 2012 murder case which had been struck off the roll after a delay in the release of post-mortem results.

The suspect, who was initially released on bail which was later cancelled due to the delay, was eventually let free. He has now been ordered to reappear in court on a date to be announced.

The incident occurred at night on 7 October at Innes Free Park in Sandton. It was alleged that the deceased became involved in an altercation with the accused who is said to have stabbed him in the neck.

The victim was found alive by a guard on patrol on the banks of a dam in the area. The guard summoned a colleague and the two’s investigation led them to a nearby shebeen, where a witness pointed out the accused.

The accused was said to have tried but failed to start his car so he could take the victim to hospital. The accused then allegedly tried to contact emergency management services for an ambulance, but was unsuccessful. It was said he then walked to the Sandton Fire Station to report the incident, and an ambulance took the victim to hospital where he died from his stab wounds.

The accused was linked to the death through blood stains found on his clothing which was taken as evidence.
