Talents of our motherland exposed

Sandton - Busi Ntuli describes herself as a coffee-drinking, control freak who loves radio.

Ntuli has not only grappled in radio, but has also worked tirelessly to promote African talent. “We need to make great African artists such as Hugh Masekela as well known as western artists such as Justin Bieber,” said Ntuli.

Ntuli’s journey began 15 years ago when she and her business partner realised the inadequate exposure of African music and content across Africa. Ntuli said it was this realisation which led to the birth of TransAfrica Radio, a radio station which only plays African music.

This is both a satellite and internet-based radio station dedicated to establishing and highlighting African music.

Ntuli said she is exceptionally passionate about promoting artists on the African continent regardless of what race they are and is adamant that good music is good music and that an African artist can be of any race or gender. TransAfrica Radio only plays music by western artists if they have collaborated with African musicians.

Ntuli describes her mission to promote African artists as a movement and said that we all need a mindset shift. She reiterated that although there is nothing wrong with supporting western musicians, it is a travesty to ignore the talents of the artists in our own motherland.

Ntuli said Transafrica Radio is available on the DSTV audio bouquet on channel 872 and on all three satellites across Africa. Ntuli is also determined to promote African music beyond the borders of Africa, with listeners in parts of Europe and Asia.

According to Ntuli, online digital radio is coming whether we like it or not. She said that she is always up to date with the latest technologies and trends. “Listeners can access my radio show on the radio vibes application, tunein.com and RadioBox.com.”

“I am a woman with a mission and the entire world needs to be made aware of the valuable, underrated talents on the African continent.”
