Win tickets to Back to the Old Skool
JOBURG - Back to the Old Skool, a music event which will feature some of South Africa’s most celebrated DJs, will take fans on a global celebration of house music at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown on 27 February.
International superstars, Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Jazzie B and Todd Terry are featured on the star-studded line-up and will accompany well-known local music stars to entertain the crowds of fans expected to attend the event.
Lloyd Cornwall, Back to the Old Skool event director, explained that this groundbreaking concert is the beginning of a series of South African events and digital content which will pay homage to the pioneers of house music.
“Dance culture was responsible for bringing together many race groups in America in the late 80s. Never before had black, white and Hispanic people danced together on the same floor to the same beats,” Cornwall began.
“It was the pioneers of house music such as Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Frankie Knuckles, Steve ‘silk’ Hurley, Jazzie B and Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk who changed everything and became the biggest youth movement since the 60s.”
DJ Ganyani, Bob Mabena, DJ Mbuso Phezulu, Sishisoul, Fistaz Mixwell, Black Coffee, DJ Christos, as well as media sensation and SA’s Got Talent winner DJ Arch Jnr will represent South Africa on the day.
Cornwall explained what the three-year-old DJ Arch Jnr from Alexandra has to offer the world of ‘old skool’ house music. “We thought it would be a great idea for our fans to see such a young performer perform alongside international talent such as Jazzie B who is exactly 50 years older than he is. We are looking forward to some proper ‘old skool’ beats from this young talent”
The all-day event is set to be an absolute hit among house fans and is definitely not to be missed.
