The Verb 101 releases Pearl Modiade-inspired track

JOHANNESBURG – There’s a new hip-hop artist on the block and he’s just released a music video for his debut track, both of which were inspired by local celebrity, Pearl Modiade.

The Verb 101 is originally from the Eastern Cape but was raised on the East Rand. His debut track and first-ever music video, called Pearl Moody, was inspired by TV and radio personality. He claims he was inspired by her hard work and beauty and so he turned her name into an adjective ‘for all things great’.

The musician said, “Pearl Moody is an achiever’s anthem, a goal attained and an adjective for a curvaceous woman. I bought a new house, that’s Pearl Moody. I bought a new car, that’s Pearl Moody. My money is beautiful like Pearl Moody.”

Although the song is a bit explicit, it’s been cleaned up for the music video, which features the Johannesburg CBD in all its glory. A few landmarks are easy to spot, including the trains often stopped underneath the Nelson Mandela Bridge and the fashion outlet Debut on Juta street in Braamfontein.

The track has been played on national radio stations including Voice of Thembisa, TUT FM, UCT Radio, Rhodes Music Radio, North West University FM and TransAfrica Radio, and we can’t help but wonder what glam gal Pearl thinks of it, considering she got engaged in December last year. The music video also seems to show a woman being chloroformed and dragged away towards the end … leaving us wondering why.
