Female rapper set to graduate

JOBURG - Genesis Manney, an award-winning and Johannesburg-based female rapper, is set to graduate at the University of Witwatersrand after completing her undergraduate studies in media and anthropology.

Manney is a four-time South African Hip Hop Awards winner, winning the Best Female award for two consecutive years, last year and in 2013, as well as winning Best Mixtape and Best Newcomer in 2013.

The 20-year-old rapper has been one of the leading female rappers in the hip-hop genre having performed at events such as Maftown Heights and Back to the City.

Manney took to Instagram to announce that she completed her degree with four distinctions and thanked everyone who helped her throughout this journey. “With all the things that are currently happening around us, I couldn’t be any more thankful for the way 2016 has begun. A young black girl can call herself educated and a victor of circumstances,” stated Manney.

The young artist also became the first female rapper to debut a visual advert on the biggest music channel in the country, Channel O.

Manney is also set to release her first album entitled Ground Zero towards the end of the year.
