VIDEO: All systems go for Maftown Heights Music Festival

The event celebrates the hip-hop sub-genre known as motswako, which is a mixture of Setswana and English rap, and is also an ode to the sub-genre’s birthplace, Mafikeng – known to all the cool kids as Maftown.

Maftown Heights is also known for showcasing rising talent in the music scene with many of the young musicians who performed in the previous editions of the festival having moved on and becoming big music stars.

The event organiser, Refiloe Ramogase, said fans must expect another epic event this year, and it promises to deliver. “The production is going to be bigger and better than it has been in previous years. We are focusing a lot on the customer experience and the line-up is amazing, including surprise acts which people can enjoy.”

Hosted for the third time in an outdoor venue, Maftown Heights is set to attract a larger crowd than before and intends to be a vibrant night of jamming to soundtracks of the urban youth culture.

“We are especially proud to be partying with a purpose as part of the proceeds of the festival from this year and every year henceforth will go towards assisting deserving students with tertiary funding,” said Ramogase.

Thabisa Mkhwanazi, marketing director for KFC Africa, said they are thrilled to continue their partnership with the festival as it brings their brand closer to connecting with the youth and their passion for music.

According to organisers, the expected turnout for this year’s festival will be about 13 000. The festival will boast some of South Africa’s most talented artists, including Ricky Rick, AKA, K.O, L-tido, Anatii, Zakwe, JR, HHP and many more.
