Johnny Clegg unplugged

ILLOVO – Sitting on a stool under the dimly lit stagelights, Johnny Clegg gently strumms his guitar as he speaks of the origins of his greatest multilingual musical masterpieces which are loved by lovers of Africa across the globe.

This was how Clegg kicked off the first in the series of The Real Unplugged Sessions, leaving his audience wide-eyed and in sheer awe of the legendary musician at The Venue, Melrose Arch.

The Real Unplugged Sessions, hosted by Real Concerts and Mix 93.8FM, will take place every Sunday for the month of November and into December at The Venue, and will provide a very personal setting where fans can really get to know their favourite artists through storytelling and song.

“Due to the success of the previous unplugged series hosted by Real Concerts, we wanted to bring it back,” said Roddy Quinn, director of the entertainment company.

“The unplugged series were created to showcase these artists’ talents in its rawest form in an intimate setting. This time we will be having surprise collaborations between artists that have never been seen or heard before.”

Other acts to look forward to in The Real Unplugged Sessions include:

  • MonArk – 8 November
  • Dan Patlansky – 15 November
  • Jesse Clegg – 22 November
  • Just Jinjer – 29 November

More acts are yet to be announced.

Doors to The Venue will open at 6pm and all performers will take to the stage at 7pm. Ticket prices range from R100 to R250 and are available through Computicket.
