Fresh comedy for SABC2

JOHANNEBSURG – On 7 November, SABC 2 will premiere a brand new comedy show, The Bantu Hour.

The Bantu Hour will come in the form of a comedy skit presented by well-known comedian Kagiso Lediga, who will co-host the show with world-acclaimed trumpeter and legendary flugelhornist Hugh Masekela, who also doubles as the bandleader.

If you like the comedy from the likes of Celeste Ntuli, Trevor Gumbi and Chris Forest – to name a few – then you’re going to love this show.

“The Bantu Hour is outside of the SA TV box. I think everyone needs a real laugh, not a sitcom laugh, on this show it’s real laughs,” said Masekela.

“Kagiso is so funny and so are the sketches. I enjoy it because I’m working with a great band and musical director Mpho Pholo aka 37mph.”

The multi-lingual, 48-minute show is a scripted sketch and variety show that has been created by a comedy troupe made up of talented stand-up comedians, professional actors and TV creators. The show promises to feature a number of progressive local comedians and actors, who will entertain viewers with unadulterated social satire, complete with archetypal South African characters.

The show’s host, Lediga said, “When we came with this concept, this really brought memories of days when we used to do the The Pure Monate Show back then. The comedy features a myriad of comedians, so viewers are in for a treat.”

“The Bantu Hour is a great way to revive sketch comedy on SABC 2 because it brings the best of South African comedy talent together and also brings the likes of Kagiso Lediga back to SABC after the ground-breaking The Pure Monate Show,” Jacqueline Setai, SABC head of genre entertainment concluded.

The Bantu Hour will premiere on SABC 2 on 7 November at 9pm.
