Legendary Ringo Madlingozi at the Bassline

JOBURG - South African music legend, Ringo Madlingozi, will once again delight fans by taking over the Bassline stage as the headlining act for the Kaya FM Presents Live @ The Bassline show.

Madlingozi has had a career spanning three decades and has been at the forefront of Afro-pop in South Africa since the 80s. With the ukuxhentsa (traditional Xhosa guitar) rhythms from his youth combined with contemporary sounds, the unique style has become Madlingozi’s trademark. He has released over 10 albums, each becoming more successful than the previous.

Fans love his performances for the way he comes alive and lights up the stage with his presence.

An artist only reaches the multi-platinum status that he has achieved through hard work, dedication and passion for his craft – a combination rarely achieved by other musicians.

The Bassline has hosted a run of spectacular Live @ The Bassline shows which have featured only female stars Zonke, Thandiswa Mazwai, Zamajobe, Maleh, Berita and Thiwe thus far.

Madlingozi will now be flying the flag for the men as he is the first male artist to be selected for the series. His more than able wingman, Mbuso Khoza, joins him as supporting act for the night.

Madlingozi handpicked Khoza to open the performance for him in a show that is guaranteed to be a sensational celebration of African pop.

The Eshowe-born, Khoza, has a special relationship with Bassline.

As a young man struggling to find his way in the tough South African music scene, he would often end up sleeping at the venue.

He went on to become a hot backing vocalist for an array of South African stars, all the while honing his craft as a singer and gifted songwriter.

Don’t miss them at the Bassline in Newtown on 6 November.
