Bryanston comedian wins Comedy Central competition

BRYANSTON – Mbeu Snooze Kambuwa (26), a comedian from Bryanston, recently won Comedy Central’s Grab the Mic talent competition.

Kambuwa triumphed in Comedy Central’s amateur comedy talent search and reached his pinnacle at the Parker’s Comedy and Jive at Montecasino when he defeated seven other contestants in a quick-fire battle of words, wit and nerves.

The competition allowed newcomers to the stand-up comedy scene to flex their comedic muscles in front of an audience and a panel of judges comprising local stand-up legends Jason Goliath and Deep Fried Man alongside head of Comedy Central Africa, Evert van der Veer and entrepreneur Joe Parker.

“This win could very well be the first step that will help Kambuwa claim his place among South Africa’s elite comedy fraternity in future,” said Van der Veer.

“Kambuwa’s unique comedic style is what set him apart and is also exactly what this competition is about … finding the comedy stars of the future, something Comedy Central is wholeheartedly committed to. We’re excited to see how Kambuwa’s career grows as a result of this opportunity.”

Kambuwa only had five minutes to impress the judges in the contest’s grand final, beating the competition due to his unique style, strong presence and an amazing performance.

He took home a trophy plus his own dedicated slot on Comedy Central’s monthly stand-up showcase, starting early next year.
