Banks promises laughs

SANDTON - As he finishes the final run of his satirical one-man show Banksrupt!, which will run until 11 July, comedian Mark Banks promises a lot of laughs.

English-born Banks, who is currently performing his one-man show at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square, is presenting a startling yet hilarious look at South African society. With his special brand of rapid-fire humour and a colourful array of characters, he presents a satirical look into South Africa.

Banks said, “The characters and humour is ridiculous to show how ridiculous South Africa can be. The title is about where we are as a nation, we’re broke, financially, morally and mentally and I want to sketch out the villains behind this sorry state we’re in, obviously with a tongue-in-cheek flavour to keep it interesting.”

This being the show’s final run, it has evolved and has been updated since its initial run in 2013 with Bank’s taking inspiration from everyday follies in a world run by politics, race and social media among others topics.

It is Banks’ first time performing in Sandton, and he has expressed great excitement towards performing for a greatly diverse and thrilling audience.

“I promise a lot of fun. If you don’t laugh, you will get a big cream pie,” said Banks.
