Game of Thrones premiers

HYDE PARK - Hyde Park Nu Metro was abuzz as the anticipated season five premier of Game Of Thrones was aired on 13 April at 3am.

The early call time did not deter die-hard fans, as they dressed as their favourite characters and were kitted out with thrones gear. Hosted and sponsored by DSTV channel MNet Edge, the screening was the first of its kind, as it aired at the same time as in America.

Despite recent rumours of leaked episodes, fans were eager to see the first episode of the new season of this mega hit. Based on the book, A Games of Thrones, which was the first novel in a high fantasy series by American author George RR Martin. It was first published on 6 August, 1996.

The series is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, and interweaves several plot lines with a broad ensemble cast. The first narrative arc follows a civil war among several noble houses for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.

The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for its first four seasons, a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form, and a Peabody Award. Among the collaborative cast, Peter Dinklage won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance as Tyrion Lannister.
