Comedy film relesed about life of migrants in Johannesburg

JOBURG – South African-based Zimbabwean arts group, Shilolo Media has collaborated with Plum Media to produce a film reflecting the challenges faced by immigrants in Joburg.

The 90-minute film was written by Zimbabwe-born Mothusi Bashimane Ndlovu who is now based in South Africa.

The film titled Madlela Skhobokhobo Power Part 1 was released in November 2014, but was never officially launched to the public, and for this reason, Ndlovu requested that is be aired on Mzansi Magic.

“Life is not always about hardships and disasters but there is also a lighter side which is what we want to tell in this film. The film was shot on locations in Hillbrow and Yeoville, which is home to thousands of people from KwaBulawayo, Zimbabwe.”

Ndlovu said the film is educational and informative to Africans at large, as it sought to promote identity. The idea is to share the life and experiences of some Zimbabwean economic migrants, especially those from KwaBulawayo who suffered before and after independence in Zimbabwe.

Plum Media collaborated with the Zimbabwean media group to allow them the chance to develop in the booming South African film industry.

The story is particularly relevant to residents in Hillbrow and Yeoville due to the number of people who are from Zimbabwe. The story does not only aim to entertain audiences, but also create awareness in Africa as a whole about the struggles faced by migrants.
