2Face fires up the dance floor

ROSEBANK – Innocent Ujah Idibia, better known by his stage name 2Face, put on quite a performance at the Harem nightclub on 21 November.

The performance was part of the musician’s partnership with alcohol brand Hennessy, which hosts the Artistry African tour.

This exclusive one-night-only event forms part of Hennessy Artistry’s African tour, an annual event that originally started as a cocktail mixing contest between renowned local barmen, but has since expanded to become Nigeria’s biggest musical collaboration platform.

The Johannesburg leg of the Hennessy Artistry African tour follows successful shows in Lagos and Ghana.

The artist, together with another music icon Wizkid, turned the club upside down with their cool beats and fun sound.

City Buzz caught up with 2Face at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton before his performance.

With his only regret not having started music at an earlier age, 2Face said his partnership with the alcohol brand has opened up his eyes to a lot of things.

“Having travelled to go see how the cognac is made, I’m more aware of what goes into making a good brand,” he said.

“It has not only inspired me to work differently, but it has also taught me about style and class – it’s really all about respect.”

Touching a bit on balancing his career with being a father, 2Face said as hard as it is with his busy schedule, there is no excuse not to make things work as a dad.

“My job takes me out of the house a lot, but I always make the time to be a father,” he added.

The star, who appears lively on stage, admitted how his fame and popularity can, at times, be “head swelling” as he is shy by nature.

“At times, it feels awkward when I walk into a room and see people dancing and singing along to my songs. It feels good though, it’s just that I am shy, but my job doesn’t permit me to be shy,” he candidly pointed out.
