Breaking the taboo on toilets

SANDTON - Comedians Trevor Gumbi and Celeste Ntuli stood up against poor sanitation at the Domestos World Toilet Day media launch in Sandton.

The United Nations-recognised annual day takes place on 19 November and it aims to break the taboo about toilets and aims to draw attention to the global sanitation crisis.

Media guests were invited to attend the launch and gain insight on the purpose of World Toilet Day as well as the initiatives Domestos is involved in.

Rox-ann Govender, on behalf of Domestos said the company’s household cleaning range hds been the main sponsor of World Toilet Day since its inception in 2001.

Gumbi and Ntuli entertained guests with their funny jokes, while 947 radio personality, Anele Mdoda was the master of ceremonies for the event.

This year the company decided to use the help of comedians to drive awareness of World Toilet Day. “Toilets are fun to joke about, but poor sanitation is no laughing matter,” added Govender.

Gumbi said, “We often take for granted the importance of proper toilets. For me, my best ideas come when I am sitting on the loo. Sanitation is a human right but I am astonished that more people have access to cellphones than they do toilets.”
