Rabinowitz entertains for Payton

SANDTON - The Help Payton Hear foundation hosted a very special evening at the Theatre on the Square with a performance by funnyman Nik Rabinowitz.

The event was held to raise funds for two-year-old Payton Peters who was diagnosed in February this year with severe bilateral hearing loss, and is in desperate need of cochlear implants. According to Payton’s mother, Michelle van Zyl, Payton caught a bad upper respiratory infection last year.

“In June, we noticed that she stopped speaking and no longer responded to us when we called her. She went for checkups where we were told that if she didn’t start speaking by the time she was two, we should then take her to a specialist,” said Van Zyl.

Van Zyl said the event went really well and made the world of difference to what they were trying to achieve. “Nik was incredible and didn’t even charge for the show. He made the offer to help us because he’s got two kids the same age, so he completely understood what we were working towards.”

Van Zyl said they were able to raise just under R34 000 towards their goal of approximately R500 000.
