Detours festival to excite with various progammes

JOBURG - With winter just around the corner, the upcoming Wits Detours festival will have exciting programmes in May to keep theatre enthusiasts entertained.

The festival, planned by the School of Arts at the University of Witwatersrand, will include a variety of performances such as aerial suspensions, screendancing and solos. Performances will run from 8 to 17 May and will include solo work from renowned artists such as Khutjo Green. All performances will take place either at the University of the Witwatersrand’s Downstairs Theatre, the Wits Physical Theatre and the Nunnery; all three venues for the festival.

First up will be Re-visioning Dance, which will include works of Leigh Nudelman-Sussman, Jeanette Ginslov and Tumelo Maloka. This screening will take place on 14 to 16 May.

Also to be presented will be the production Prophylactic by Claire Rousell, followed by Caught by Nomcebisi Moyika of the The First Physical Theatre Company.

From 14 to 17 May the festival will see various works by Amy de Wet, Oupa Sibeko and Saskia van Ryneveld being presented while Kubad eSouth Africa by Ibokwe Khoza and Khutjo Green will be screened.

Khutjo Green will again collaborate with Tshego Khutsoane, Georges Pfruender, Jill Richards and Vanessa Cooke for the screening of their work, Open to Doubt.

Also in the line-up will be the screening of Matthieu Nieto’s I am not my Color .
