New organisation causes a buzz with local spin on Pharell song

JOBURG - New organisation, School of Thought puts another spin on the smash hit, Happy by Pharrell Williams

With over 3 000 hits on Youtube since being posted on 22 April, School of Thought’s spin on the hit song, Happy by Pharrell Williams seems to be gaining much popularity.

The Johannesburg version of the smash hit was used by the online-based organisation as a way to launch themselves.

According to Motse “UnbrandedCow” Molatela, creative director of the music video, the organisation also decided to make the video as a creative outlet.

“We basically wanted to do something fun and add another spin to the song; hence we opted to focus more on the people featured rather than various places in Johannesburg,” he said.

He added that it was important for the organisation to capture the essence of the people used in the music, most of whom were total strangers approached to feature in the video.

Molatela also belongs to the newly-launched organisation, School of Thought, which is aimed at recruiting and assisting emerging creatives in any industry.

“We launched School of Thought because we are creatives and we know how it feels to be struggling creatives in our own industry, so we want to help others out there,” he added.

Molatela said that the organisation is aimed at emerging creatives, in any industry, who want to make an impact in their respective industry.

“Through the organisation, we want to create collaboration between people – sort of create a platform for people to showcase their skills,” he said.

School of Thought also consists of members Lungi Molefe, Jacques Bezuidenhout and Maxzene Morgan and was launched over the Easter weekend.

Of any future projects planned, Molatela laughs and said he can’t elaborate much on future plans but gave a taste of what’s to come.

“We want to send out a basic brief to creatives out there and invite them to showcase their stuff; we just want to have a renaissance of sorts in the creative industry,” he added.
