Bioscope to screen Lamb of God documentary

MABONENG PRECINCT - What began as a simple documentary about American metal band Lamb of God took a dramatic turn when the lead singer was arrested on charges of manslaughter.

The feature-length documentary that followed the courtroom drama after Randy Blythe was blamed for the death of one of the band’s young fans will be screened by The Bioscope cinema in April.

As the Palaces Burn was intended to follow the band and their fans throughout the world, to demonstrate how music can bring people together when no other common bond can be found.

However, during the filming process in 2012, the band was drawn into a Kafkaesque nightmare with Blythe’s case.

A fan fell to his death from the stage at one of the band’s concerts in Prague, Czech Republic, after he was allegedly pushed by Blythe.

Rather than scrap the documentary, the band opted to continue with the project, albeit from a new angle.

The screening will be made possible through The Bioscope’s relationship with Flamedrop Productions, and will form part of the production house’s annual X Fest Film Festival.

When the Palaces Burn will be screened from 4 to 6 April at The Bioscope, 286 Fox Street, Maboneng Precinct.
