Jazz and blues fans enjoy weekend of music

SANDTON- The second annual Jazz and Blues Weekend was hosted at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square.

A dynamic line-up of toe-tapping artists entertained theatre goers and music fans alike. Jazz fans heard swinging renditions of popular jazz standards from the American Song Book and Latin Jazz.

The weekend began with renowned South African Rhythm & Blues guitarist Mike Slavin, who assembled his dream band under the banner The Mike Slavin Blues Project. The band’s programme was filled with renditions of the blues from the Mississippi Delta to contemporary songs. The band boasted a line-up that included the unique sounds of steel guitarist Sez Adamson, blues harmonica player Craig McKinnon, bassist Nippy Cripwell, keyboard wizard Bobby Pafhsovski, and American drummer Mike Canfield, as well as a special guest appearance by singer Kathy Raven. Cat’s American Songbook and The Jazz Showcase also entertained audiences at the Square.
