Ring in the new year in Joburg

If you're of the opinion that New Year's Eve calls for a little more pizzazz than the same old same old braai at home or seeing in the new year on TV, you can party the night away without going too far afield.

Contrary to popular belief, not all Joburgers disappear in December, and some of those Joburgers have organised New Year’s Eve shindigs in the city. Diamonds in the Sky at Randlords, Braamfontein, will see a line-up of some of Joburg’s hottest DJs including Clive Bean, Danny J, Mark Stent and Ami Lectrix keep the beats going until sunrise. Located on the 22nd floor of South Point Towers, the venue offers a breathtaking bird’s-eye-view over the city. Patrons will be able to watch the last sunset of 2013, the first sunrise of 2014, and in between, the sky over Joburg glitter, shine and sparkle with fireworks. Individual tickets and booth reservations are available. If you’d prefer to move into 2014 by taking a trip down memory lane, Rivonia’s Barnyard Theatre has just the ticket for you. Patrons can ring in the new year to the tunes of pop greats from the last five decades such as Michael Jackson, Elton John, Tina Turner, Pink and Freddie Mercury. Montecasino’s Cantare decided to bump up the glamour with a masked ball this New Year’s Eve. Patrons can look forward to a live band, DJ, a five-course meal, a Varga cabaret show, prizes, and a glass of champagne to toast the new year at midnight.
