Cricket fans celebrate Mark Boucher’s career.

CRICKET fans had the opportunity to honour South African sporting legend, Mark Boucher, at his official tribute gala dinner on 30 October at the Sandton Sun Hotel.

The tribute Gala provided fans with the unique opportunity to celebrate his illustrious career and show this world record holder some of the appreciation he deserves for the many years of exciting cricket he has given fans across the globe.

David Lazarus, Joint Managing Director of RAM Hand-to-Hand Couriers, and main sponsor of the gala, noted that Boucher is one of the world’s most loved sporting legends, and a hero on and off the field.

“We wanted to give him the opportunity to see the impact he has made on so many lives as a patriotic, talented and compassionate gentleman that operates with a strong code of integrity and who will be added to the South African Sports Hall of Fame for his contribution to the game,” added Lazarus.

Boucher’s record speaks for itself with countless achievements spanning his sporting career, including being voted South African Cricketer of the Year in 1998, 2000 and 2006.

He also holds the world record for the quickest 200 test match catches, and is the first wicketkeeper to have effected 400 dismissals.

Boucher also hit the winning runs in the world-record 438-run ODI game at Wanderers, and holds the record for the most dismissals in test cricket with 999 dismissals. In addition to his remarkable success as a bowler and batsman, he is statistically the most successful wicketkeeper in the history of cricket, and has represented South Africa as captain and vice captain.

Fans of Boucher and of cricket generally would be able to recite these statistics at the drop of a wicket, but the man off the field is someone that many fans don’t know.

Boucher has contributed to the game by helping to build the future cricket legends with his development work across the country.

He is also passionate about the country, environment and everything that represents our nation, and is involved in raising awareness of the fight against Rhino poaching under the umbrella of Boucher Conservation.
