Cricket and netball Night Challenge returns to Montrose

Sandton schools, and teams from Johannesburg north, joined Montrose U11 cricket and netball teams for a tournament over who plays better.

The Montrose Primary School U11 Night Challenge tournament is back in Parkmore, and the community showed up in great numbers to support Sandton’s learners in their pursuits of excellence in cricket and netball.

The cricket tournament saw 12 teams vie to take the top of the first week scoreboard.

Montrose, Dainfern, HeronBridge, Rivonia, Bryneven, Grayston, Redhill, Crawford International Sandton, and Lonehill Primary Schools were joined on the field by the developmental teams: Alexandra Hub and KPT CGL Lions.

The abovementioned primary schools also participated in the netball tournament, where they were further joined on the host school’s courts by teams representing: Chippa Mavericks, Reddam, Crawford Fourways, and Steyn City.

In the cricket, Montrose finished at the top of the log for pool one. Bryandale, Rivonia, and Bryneven Primary Schools also finished top of their respective logs.

Bryandale placed first by the end of the first evening, followed on the scoreboard by Chippa Mavericks and Redhill in second and third respectively.

This year’s U11 Night Challenge tournament opened in a festival-like manner, with stilt-walking, fire-breathing, dancing, and face painting. The opening ceremony, on October 10, presented the community with a lively, family-oriented way to close a long week.
