RAC prepares for annual 10km

BORDEAUX – Social and serious runners alike can look forward to the Sweat Shop 10km.

Rand Athletic Club is excited to invite runners to its annual Sweat Shop 10km on May 29.

The last time the run was officially held was in 2019, though a low-key event was organised last year.

“This year was going to be a championship event with 10km and 21km events but Central Gauteng Athletics decided to make it just one race,” explained club secretary, Vreni Welch.

“We are restricted to 2 000 runners. Normally the run is two weeks before the Comrades, but with the Comrades in August now, it will be interesting to see how runners will use this for training and how they will benefit.”

The club is still planning the logistics and entries are not yet open, but runners can save the date.

The route will be the same as always, starting at Old Parktonian Sports Club in Bordeaux, and going through the beautiful suburbs of Hurlingham and Craighall, before returning to the club.

“A 10km distance is a good one because it is not too tough. It’s the start of trail running distances. You will see a lot of social runners take part and fitter runners running it fast.”
