Montrose tournament concludes

PARKMORE – Cricket and netball finals of the Montrose Night Challenge reached its conclusion on March 3 with unpredictable matches.

The annual inter-primary night tournament, Montrose Night Challenge, finally reached its conclusion with unforgettable moments that deserved to be mentioned. All matches were played on March 3.

The cricket final was an all-lions affair between the KPT Lions and the Central Gauteng Lions Alex Hub. The first final of its kind left many spectators hanging on the edge of their seats.

KPT Lions won the toss and decided to bowl first. Alex Hub scored 123 all out in 19.3 overs. Like the prideful lions, KPT Lions refused to accept defeat – they reached the total in 18.5 overs making them the new crowned champions of the challenge. The team won by three wickets.

Hero of the Match was won by Yusuf Ditta [Alex Hub] for his astonishing performance: taking three wickets for 24 runs in his three overs. Man of the Match was given to Sihle Mokhobane [KPT Lions] for scoring 44 runs during the match.

A walk away from the cricket pitch was one of the most anticipated netball games in the history of the tournament.

Rivonia went up against the home team, Montrose, in the netball final. The team in green, Rivonia, took the lead during the first half and showed no remorse in finishing first.

The second half heated up as Montrose players fought hard to win it for their school, and levelled at 7–7 which resulted in extra time of two halves of three minutes each. In the end, Rivonia Primary School won by three goals: 10–7.

“The games were all great, unfortunately, I could only attend cricket. To see the joy from these talented young players was just great. I am glad that the weather behaved for today’s final matches, that’s a huge relief. We’ll be back in October for the U11s,” concluded the organiser of the inter-primary night challenge, Gwen Nelson.
